Description

The wine has a lovely purity of fruit, along with an interesting struck match complexity on the nose. The palate is beautifully textured with nougat, brioche flavours, a balanced acidity and long finish.

Awards

Gold New Zealand International Wine Show

5 Star Gold Medal - Dish Magazine (NZ), July/August 2021
"Roasty, toasty, this chardonnay is up there with the mosty! A powerful, barrel-fermented style, bursting with scorched peach, caramelised oak notes, spiced lemon and crushed almond aromatics. 'I love the flinty, gun smoke and charred wood notes', said Rebecca Deed, while Yvonne Lorkin felt it stood out for how it unveils so many dimensions of flavours it opens up in the glass. This vintage is a huge step-up in quality for this tiny Hawke's Bay winery.

Vineyard

Our Prestige Collection wines are produced in a form that allows us to showcase the inherent character of our vineyard. Low crops are a key ingredient in developing fruit with intensity and character. These vines have been controlled to produce no more than 1.5kg per vine. We want wines that exhibit floral like citrus flowers combined with the zest of grapefruit on the nose. A palate that is texturally rich and plush, yet with an attractive tension. Due to what’s going on under the ground, we can deliver a refreshing mineral and acid spine on which the more complex where flavours of nougat integrate with a lingering toastiness.

Vinification

Crushing/Pressing: Whole bunch pressed using Champagne style press cycle.

Fermentation: Transferred cloudy to French barriques for fermentation, wild fermentation, wild malolactic fermentation.

Maturation

100% French barrel fermented, and aged for 11 months. 60% new 40% seasoned oak.
